In every country framed pictures of its leaders are placed in many different locations ranging from the homes of its people to government offices, corporations and public places. In most countries leaders are very powerful people and having a sense of presence of the leaders bring more than just mere luck in getting certain things done.
“Framing Leaders” is a website consisting of algorithmically generated framed pictures of Heads of Governments based on their length in power, latest Press Freedom Index (RSF) and Corruption Perceptions Index (TI) for the country. Leaders are all about borders, power, constrains which the algorithm translates to ornaments, proportions, matting and darkness.

Flags of the world as piecharts. Each sector of these piecharts is proportional to the area of the colour on the respective flag.
Using a list of countries generated by The World Factbook database, flags of countries fetched from Wikipedia are analysed by a custom made python script to calculate the proportions of colours on each of them. That is then translated on to a piechart using another python script. The proportions of colours on all unique flags are used to finally generate a piechart of proportions of colours for all the flags combined.

Technical realization of the initial phase of vakmanstad.nl which included custom made map-engine for visualizing cartographic statistics for Rotterdam.
With the rather robust transition from Labour City to Cultural City Rotterdam runs the risk of neglecting an infrastructural dimension of the city. Urban renewal in a physical sense cannot go without a social and cultural program. Rotterdam Vakmanstad (skill-city) is a vision that strives for an entrepeneurial craftmanship that is based on the stimulation of edication and social formation. It is about taking the creative potential of people serious and to develop this potential into creative skills. Rotterdam Vakmanstad is therefore a chance to close the gap that has been created through rapid developments and a limited global-economic perspective on the city. Rotterdam Vakmanstad is a project by The Maze Corporation and AIR (Architecture Institute Rotterdam). (link)

Pixel Maker lets you create you own pixel drawings with multiple colours and save them as a jpg or a svg. Currently there is a choice of six brush sizes and 21 colours to choose from. This has been tested and works on Firefox, Opera, Safari and IE 5.5+. With feedback I would like to develop this further.

A series of aerial photographs illustrating the densely urbanised island city of Male’, the capital of Maldives. One of the photographs from this series was featured as the picture of the day on the front page of the English version of Wikipedia on July 26th 2006 and appears on Fragile Earth a publication by Harper Collins UK, showing the extraordinary effects of man and nature providing insights into our possible future world.

Music from nature can be very unpredictable. It is soothing at times, and not so at other times. When observed deeply, an evolving mathematical pattern is evident. Generator creates an evolving algorithm that generates sounds and visuals. Sounds and still images of the space are captured continuously at regular intervals and stored in the system. The receptary of time stamped material is used to determine a historic memory of the space which forms an underlying ancestral layer. This combines with the most recent materials along with a real-time analysis of sound levels to compile the generated ambience. As nature evolves and produces ambience for its surrounding, Generator grows by surveilling its location and generates ambience for the space from the space.

A very large percentage of our brain is used for processing visual information; that makes humans highly visual beings. What we perceive from our senses, especially our sense of sight, transform into meaningful representations of the world around us. For a large part the saying “seeing is believing†goes a long way, as people readily accept the image they see whether it is through their own eyes or though a photograph. Photography enables us to “see†and thus “experience†a wide range of experiences through space and time without us having to physically be there. (link)
